Costa Rica is great for those who relish their fishing and wish to do it in one of the most spectacular and beautiful tropical environments. As anyone who has been there will tell you, the entire country is a tropical garden, the people are friendly and helpful, and the fishing is diverse and productive.
Where can you expect to fish? Your opportunities can be broken down into five general areas: the North, South, and central Pacific Ocean; the Caribbean coast, and fresh water areas. The beautiful thing about it is that Costa Rica is a small enough country that you don't have to limit yourself by committing to just one area on your holiday. It can truly be a buffet fishing trip.
What can you expect to catch? The yield is incredibly diverse. For example, for monster Billfish, the North Pacific coast is a good bet all year round. However, if you've come to Quepos in the Central Pacific region for the abundant Tuna (biting all year), you can bag Marlin in October or Sailfish in January as long as you're there.
You can expect to bag hard-fighting Bass in many areas. For a unique fighting experience and a taste treat that you won't soon forget go for the Mojarra, a member of the cichlid family that resembles a giant Bluegill.
There are a variety of operators round the country providing a number of different packages, from half-day trips, to multi-day excursions, either in-shore or off-shore. The entire Pacific Coast is served by operators, but Quepos/Manuel Antonio is the undeniable hub of this coast. Ask us for recommendations when you make your booking.
Many of our Manuel Antonio villas are perfect for sportsfishing groups looking for great acommodation at a great price. Many of these villa rentals can acommodate up to 20 fishermen, and come complete with concierge to help you arrange whatever else you may need for your stay.
